Working with a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™

Financial advisors have to pass a series of exams to offer securities and insurance products, but there are very few regulations regarding who can use the title “financial planner”. The CFP® Board benefits the public by independently certifying financial planners. CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioners have met rigorous qualifications for financial planning. As part of their certification, CFP® professionals commit to high ethical standards, have a minimum of three years experience related to delivering financial planning services and must pass a comprehensive exam before they can call themselves a CFP® professional.

A CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ has agreed to act in a fiduciary capacity, which means putting the client’s best interests first, when they are providing financial advice to a client.
